We were recently called to carry out a full foul water pumping station refurbishment for a large and busy nightclub in Hertfordshire. The twin pump station served the kitchen, bar and toilet facilities, meaning reliability was absolutely critical to keeping the venue operational.
Because the existing pumping station wasn’t originally supplied by us, we were able to upgrade the system with higher quality, longer lasting components, reducing future maintenance costs and improving overall performance.
The customer contacted us after both pumps in the sewage pumping station had completely failed. As a result, they were forced to have the tank emptied weekly at £300 per visit by a tanker company — an expensive and unsustainable workaround.
They were also experiencing issues with the GRP storage tank distorting, which risked further structural problems if left unresolved.
Access to the pumping station was extremely limited due to its location within the nightclub. However, our Confined Space Trained engineers are fully qualified to work safely and efficiently in restricted environments, ensuring the refurbishment could be completed without disruption to the venue.
1. Chamber Cleaning & DeGreasing
We began with a full clean and degrease of the chamber using specialist tools and chemicals. This removed all fats, greases and debris that could cause future pump failures.
2. Structural Reinforcement of the GRP Tank
To resolve the distortion issue, we installed a reinforced metal base plate, a proven method that stabilises the tank and prevents further deformation.
3. Pump Replacement
The original low quality pumps were replaced with two high performance Caprari MAV sewage pumps — a brand we trust for reliability, efficiency and long service life.
4. New Pipework, Guide Rails & Chains
We installed:
New stainless steel guide rails, brackets and chains
New specialist PVC pipework designed for durability and resistance to corrosion
Four new float switches for accurate level control and dependable automatic operation

All pump guide-rails and chains were replaced with high-quality new parts as well all pipework being replaced with new speciality PVC pipework that's robust and won't degrade. We also replaced the four float switches to ensure water-levels could be accurately and reliably monitored at all times.
After completing the refurbishment, the pumping station was left clean, structurally reinforced, and fitted with premium components. The system now operates more efficiently, with significantly reduced risk of breakdowns — provided it receives routine servicing.
